A Christmas in Madrid May Feel Like Home

If you are interested in going away for the holidays, but still want to experience Christmas with all the fixings then Madrid is a good spot for you and your family. This is a place known for its Christmas decorations, and it should be considering the city actually commissions architects and designers to set up creative light displays. The fantastic areas to go and see these lights are along the main shopping streets all around Madrid.

Also, you will by no means have to forgo the nativity scene. In Spain they are called nacimientos, and these depictions of Christ’s birth are well revered, and a long held tradition.  In fact, you can go to the Real Monasterio de la Encarnacion to see a one that includes figures that date back to more than two hundred years ago. If you do make it to see these, you will be fortunate indeed, as they are only taken out once a year, and are real treasures.

As for the sweets, you may not recognise all of them, but you will have no trouble finding many that you like. Some will be only available at Christmas time, so snap them up and don’t worry about the calories, as you may never have the chance to enjoy them again.
